What is Eco X Change?

Eco X Change is a sustainable fashion initiative dedicated to combating textile waste through a zero-waste process. We provide a convenient solution for individuals and families to responsibly clear out unwanted apparel while promoting circularity, community, and conservation.

How does the membership work?

Members select a plan that suits their needs, receive collection bags, and can schedule pickups for their unwanted clothing. Additionally, members enjoy discounts at our online boutique and in-person pop-up shops.

What items do you accept?

We accept ALL clothing in ALL conditions (even with holes and stains), though we ask that your apparel be washed before you give.

What happens to my donated clothing?

Our zero-waste process involves the following:

  • Redistribution - Clothes go to neighbors in need at free mobile closet events and local non-profits. We identify specific needs to ensure organizations are not overwhelmed with donations that will not be used. 
  • Repair - holes and stains are repaired, and items are sold or redistributed
  • Reimagine - local artisans transform textile waste into one-of-a-kind designs
  • Recycle - any leftover scraps that can’t be used for clothing will be given a new purpose
  • Resale - Items are available for sale at local pop-up markets
How do I set up collections when my bag is full?

Members can schedule pickups at their convenience up to four times per year. Simply visit our website and schedule a pickup

Are there any fees for pickups?

Pickup services are included with your membership, so there are no additional fees to schedule a pickup!

How do you distribute clothes at no cost to neighbors?

Each month, we have a free mobile closet for our neighbors in need. We host these at community centers, food banks, and churches.  Our mobile closet runs on volunteers, so if you’d like to volunteer, please email info@ecoxchangeatx.org.

Where can I shop the EXC Collection?

We host in-person pop-up boutiques and curate a collection of our favorite pieces on our website. Follow us on Instagram to find out where we’ll be next!

How do you ensure transparency in your operations?

Eco X Change is committed to ethical practices and transparency. Members are informed about where their clothing goes and how it is reused or recycled.

Can I volunteer with Eco X Change?

Yes! We welcome community members to get involved through volunteering opportunities. Please contact us at info@ecoxchangeatx.org for more information on how to help.

How can I get involved?

You can get involved in many ways. Along with memberships and volunteer opportunities, we also partner and collaborate with local non-profits, organizations, and individuals. If you're interested in collaborating, please send us an email to info@ecoxchangeatx.org

  • Non-Profits: We work with local non-profits, donating the clothes they need when they need them.
  • Individuals: We collaborate with local artisans, organizers, and stylists on projects ranging from clothing repair and upcycling to closet organization and personal styling.
  • Organizations: If you’re an organization and would like to sponsor one of our free mobile pop-ups, we'd love to hear from you! We are also grateful to accept donations of any amount.
What does my monetary support go toward?

Your support enables us to continue transforming Austin into a hub for all things circular fashion while making the community a better place to live for everyone.  Funding goes toward:

  • The cost of sorting and washing clothing.
  • The continued development of a sustainable and long-lasting XChange Bag.
  • Infrastructure, including tools, technology, and new equipment, for our growing business.
  • Administrative costs to keep our business running.
  • Community events like our free mobile closets.

How often will you charge me?
  • If you have an Annual Subscription, you will be charged once a year.
  • If you have a Quarterly Subscription, you will be charged $30/4 times per year.
